VMWare created the Journey Dashboard web application to allow their clients to review business applications running on the VMWare “cloud” using their server virtualization technology. Because the analytics data is a valuable tool for everything from sales and marketing to business strategy, it was important to make utilizing it as clear and concise as possible, while allowing for maximum flexibility.

In my role as UX design manager, I began by creating information architecture flow diagrams in Visio, then both the wireframes and page comps in Adobe Illustrator, which would also facilitate fast prototyping in Adobe Flex once the client selected a final design. By utilizing Illustrator and vector elements, visual scalability was thus excluded as a design limitation, and the repurposing of certain visual elements for other VMWare applications would also be easier.
